Coins from the PFP excavations, 2004-2011

The Porolissum Forum Project excavations yielded a total of 48 coins, including 2 Romanian coins from the 1970s or 80s. The Roman coins range between Vespasian and Severus Alexander, with the following breakdown: Vespasian (2), Domitian (3), Trajan (2), Hadrian (3), Antoninus Pius (7), Marcus Aurelius (2), Commodus (3), Septimius Severus (10), Caracalla (2), Severus Alexander (4). Eight coins are illegible. We will add to this section as new information transpires.

Eight coins, including the 2 modern coins, were recovered in topsoil. The two Trajanic coins (254, 256), one Hadrianic coin (170), six coins of Antoninus Pius (100, 135, 140, 171, 185, 255), one coin of Septimius Severus (239) and one coin of Severus Alexander (243) are from archaeological contexts contemporary with or shortly after the reign of the emperor. The remaining coins are viewed as residual.
